Overnight closing of transit tunnel will send trolley, bus traffic over Warrington

August 21, 2012

As part of a system-wide rail grinding project, Port Authority's Mt. Washington Transit Tunnel will be closed overnights through Thursday of this week.

Closures will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., detouring both light rail and buses.

All rail traffic will be routed via the Allentown line during the closure, bypassing Station Square in both directions.

Trips from the South Hills to Station Square can be completed by requesting a free transfer to any inbound bus at South Hills Junction. A special local rail shuttle will operate between Station Square and First Avenue Station for riders traveling between Station Square and Downtown/North Shore. Riders traveling to the South Hills from Station Square may take the rail shuttle to First Avenue, then transfer to outbound T service, or take bus service from Smithfield Street Bridge at Landmarks Building, then transfer to rail at South Hills Junction.

Affected bus routes will also detour via Warrington and Arlington avenues, serving Station Square with a stop on East Carson Street at the Smithfield Street Bridge.
