Nick Viglione and Frank Bernardini best for Mt. Oliver

November 1, 2011

Over the past several years Mount Oliver Borough has been in the headlines on too many occasions.

Drugs, shootings, and public safety issues are an everyday concern. But for a while, the issue receiving the most amount of press was what was going on inside 150 Brownsville Road on the third Monday of each month.

When Mount Oliver Councilmembers took their seats in 2010, James Cassidy, Betty Michener and Dennis Obeldobel were in the middle of their four-year terms and newly elected or re-elected were Christine Brendel, John Smith and Sara Kudasick. Jeffrey Repasky was the mayor.

Since then, Mr. Cassidy is now the mayor, Ms. Kudasick resigned and Ms. Michener was removed from her borough council seat, only to be offered her office back to which she declined. Ms. Michener is suing the borough and sitting councilmembers in relation to her being removed from office. She is once again running for the seat.

Currently, half of the borough council is seated having never received a vote in the last election: Corey McGough, Darnell Sains and George Farneth.

In an effort to bring some stability to the council, two long-time borough residents have stepped forward and are running as long-shots with a write-in campaign. Nicholas Viglione and Frank Bernardini are concerned about public safety in the borough and as councilmen want to work with the police. They feel it's important to have a well-staffed and well equipped police department.

Mr. Viglione, a retired union laborer, and Mr. Bernardini, retired from the military, also have extensive experience working with youngsters in the borough. The men volunteered with the youth baseball and football programs in Mount Oliver and are interested in getting the programs restarted.

Mr. Viglione and Mr. Bernardini have more than a combined 70 years living in Mount Oliver and deserve a chance to show how they can help as elected officials.
