Pius speed a problem

April 19, 2011

Pius...the disregarded street.

I couldn't agree more with Mr. Tarkett's Letter to the Editor about Pius Street still being a speedway (Pius still a speedway, April 12, 2011).

My husband and I have lived on Pius Street for 15 years. We also have a young daughter and have noticed how people disregard the speed limit on our street.

Changing it to a one-way street did save damage to our cars, but now the speeding motorists are endangering our lives. We need to have the stop sign replaced or a speed bump installed. The police cannot possibly monitor the street day and night.

We have also sent numerous complaints to the 311 Response Line about the condos at 66 Pius Street, as well as attempts to contact their maintenance company directly. They do not clean up leaves or snow on their sidewalks in front of the condos, making it treacherous to walk on.

If you drive by, you will see that the fall leaves of the past couple years have become part of the sidewalk, and would probably require a putty knife to remove them at this point. I don't understand why the owners of these condos aren't more upset about the monthly maintenance fees they pay, when it seems nothing on the exterior is taken care of, including the giant potholes in their parking lot.

Let's hope the city officials will read this, and remember that we do exist in the Slopes and would appreciate some action taken to address our concerns.
