Seniors benefit from volunteers effort

February 8, 2011

Senior citizens at the Henry Kaufmann Center and Adult Day Center enjoyed a fun-filled day with a little help from Marsh USA Inc. and Pittsburgh Cares volunteers.

Fifteen volunteers from Marsh USA Inc., made their way from PPG Place, Downtown, and landed at the Henry Kaufmann Center to provide a fun-filled day for older adults at both the Adult Day Center and the Henry Kaufmann Senior Center.

Michelle Silliman, program manager of Adult Day Services, offered the volunteers an overview of the comprehensive daily activities and services provided for seniors needing extra attention during the day. Afterward, one of the volunteers said, "That sounds like a lot of fun going on here."

The Henry Kaufmann Senior Center group also participated in the day's activities. Cyndie Carioli, coordinator of senior center services, said she couldn't tell who was having more fun, the seniors or the volunteers.

According to their website, "Marsh is a world leader in delivering risk and insurance services and solutions to its clients." A variety of activities designed to promote dexterity, brain function, creativity and sociability were provided by the Marsh volunteers and a great time was enjoyed by all in attendance.

This partnership with Marsh USA Inc. was made possible by Pittsburgh Cares, a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase community engagement through volunteerism and enhance the impact of regional service partners. For more information, go to www. pittsburghcares.org.
