Dr. Nevin, a ‘40 Under 40' winner

Dr. Amy Nevin, a pediatrician at the Hilltop Community Healthcare Center, has been named by Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP (Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project) as a "40 Under 40" 2010 winner.

The goal of the program is to recognize 40 people under the age of 40 "who are committed to shaping our region and making it a better place for everyone."

In a letter supporting Dr. Nevin's nomination, Councilman Bruce Kraus wrote, "she is a compassionate and skilled professional" who finds the time to address community issues such as elevated lead levels and abandoned houses.

Dr. Nevin is committed to meeting the health care needs of children and their families in the underserved Hilltop communities. She has served at the Hilltop Health Center since it opened at 317 Climax Street in November 2004, but she is known throughout the Pittsburgh area for her enthusiasm, energy, and tireless advocacy.

She is noted not only for her professional knowledge and skills as a pediatrician, but also for her creative teaching activities with teenagers and teenage moms. She teaches pediatric residents and inspires in them the same enthusiasm and values.

Dr. Nevin was recognized, along with the other 40 Under 40 winners at a celebration in November.

Dr.Trina Peduzzi, also a pediatrician, at the Hilltop site, was elected to serve a three-year term as the Young Physician Board Representative for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Peduzzi joined the staff at Hilltop in November, 2007. She has taken on as a special project, the Reach Out and Read Program, which seeks to make early literacy part of pediatric primary care. The focus is on children from six months to five years of age so that children grow up with books and a love of reading.
