Pharm collection in Hampton Saturday

The Southwestern PA Household Hazardous Waste Task Force (Task Force) will sponsor the first-ever Pharmaceutical Collection in Allegheny County on Sat., May 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hampton Township at the Hampton Township Community Center, 3101 McCully Road, Allison Park, PA 15101.

Pharmaceuticals contaminating the drinking water supply have rapidly come to the forefront of environmental concerns in many communities; this event will provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted medications at a reasonable cost. A flat fee of $3 per participant, cash only, will be charged.

Acceptable items include prescription medications (both controlled and non-controlled) as well as over-the-counter and veterinary medications. Items that will not be accepted include: durable medical goods, health and beauty aids, home care supplies, home health equipment, household hazardous waste (paint, aerosol cans, etc.), illegal substances and paraphernalia, infectious waste, instutional waste, medical devices and equipment, medical sharps (needles, lancets), mercury thermometers, personal care items and radioactive materials.

Pre-registration is required for this event, and can be completed either on line at or by calling 412-488-7452. Although Hampton Township is hosting this event, it is open to all residents throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.
