Volunteers needed in South Side to help Duquesne University students in clean up
August 18, 2009
The South Side is going to get a few extra set of hands to help beautify the neighborhood on August 22.
As part of its Freshman Orientation Program, Duquesne University is once again teaming up with the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC); to conduct a large scale litter pick-up on the South Side. This year an estimated 400 students are expected to descend on the South Side to contribute to the ongoing beautification efforts of the community and they are in great need of community members to participate in the event.
The hope is to instill a sense community upon the young incoming Duquesne freshman and have them see the importance of service to others and the community in which they live. Community members are encouraged to participate in the cleanup by being team leaders for the students.
The team leaders will be taking the students to their designated cleanup areas and will work side by side with them to beautify the neighborhood. The goal is to have the students connect with the community and its members, something that will continue through out their next four years of schooling.
The Freshman Orientation Cleanup will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday August 22. To learn more about this event or to volunteer to be a team leader for the Duquesne cleanup, contact Sarah Alessio at PRC at 412-488-7490 ext. 236 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
