South Side council wants help to design a new logo

April 21, 2009

South Side Community Council, a non-profit neighborhood association, seeks a new logo as they expand efforts to recruit new members and increase visibility within the community.

Because we have no paid staff and minimal funding, they are seeking the help of local graphic designer professionals and firms in the form of a logo contest. All persons or firms participating in the contest will be recognized in the SSCC's next newsletter and the winning design will be unveiled at the community meeting in June. A small prize will also be awarded to the winning designer/team.

South Side Community Council, is an all volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit, non-partisan, charitable organization dedicated to providing leadership, advocacy, and information about quality of life issues effecting residents, property owners, and businesses; along with celebrating the South Side's unique history and sense of community.

Their primary goals are building positive relationships among residents and businesses; voicing collective concerns and issues to government officials; and helping to make South Side a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant community for all who live, work, and visit our diverse urban neighborhood.

The ideal logo will be a balance of the following:

• Simple, scalable, and memorable iconic design with instant impact

• Symbolic of the neighborhood's dynamic streetscape and rich Victorian architecture

• Appeal to an eclectic and diverse population of residents and business operators—from hipsters to retired steel workers, tattoo parlors to upscale restaurants.

The logo will be incorporated into the design of the SSCC's new Website, as well as used on letterhead, newsletters, event flyers, membership materials, etc. The design should incorporate Web-safe colors that can be reproduced in print format, while remaining equally effective without color, as many of our materials are printed in B&W

The logo will be used as both a standalone graphic and an alternate version with "South Side Community Council" text, along with the possible addition of a tagline in the future.

Those who would like to participate or have any questions, should contact Brady Lutsko at 412-381-1105 or via email to brady@lutskoconsulting.com.

Preliminary design concepts are due by Friday, May 8, and will be reviewed by the SSCC Board of Directors at their monthly meeting on May 12.

All members of the South Side marketing communications/graphic design community are encouraged to participate.
