City councilmen have been generous to Elder-ado
January 27, 2009
The Elder-ado, Inc., a private non-profit, 501©3 social service agency, has provided services to our elderly community for the past 34 years. This organization receives funding from many sources including: The Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Area Agency on Aging. Grants from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development which have been sponsored by State Senators Jay Costa, Jr., Wayne Fontana with additional support from our State Representatives Harry Readshaw and Jake Wheatley.
As for City of Pittsburgh through the city's Community Development Block Grants the Elder-ado has applied for and received grants from City Council Districts 3 and 4. Councilmen Gene Ricciardi, Jeffrey Koch and now Bruce Kraus as well as Councilmen Joe Cusick, Michael Diven and now Jim Motznick all have sponsored grants for Elder-ado. These grants are designated by their sponsors to provide services in the area they represent. I believe that it has been the intent of our local leaders to provide funding to community groups who apply and are eligible for grants in their district.
Thus the Elder-ado has received several thousand dollars throughout the past 16 years during my tenure as executive director. Without this funding, the Elder-ado would find it very difficult, if not impossible, to provide services to our senior citizens. The Elder-ado is appreciative of the commitment of our local leaders and our other funders who support our organization. Without this additional support there would be no Elder-ado and no place in our communities for our senior citizens to receive services.
