Carrick Cougars holding on-ice evaluations and informational meeting
January 20, 2009
The Carrick Cougars Ice Hockey Club will hold an informational meeting and on-ice evaluation session on Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Ice Castles Arena, 990 Castle Shannon Boulevard, Castle Shannon, for boys and girls entering grades 6 through 12 in September 2009.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and skaters will go on the ice for approximately one hour starting at 8 p.m. Skaters should bring their hockey equipment, including skates, helmet, gloves and stick to go out on the ice.
The Cougars participate in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) with Ice Castles Arena being their home ice. Participants do not have to attend Carrick High School or live in the Carrick area to be eligible to play in their league; they should not, however, be attending a school with a hockey program. The current roster includes players from Brashear, Perry, Brentwood and other city high schools.
The Cougars are planning to initiate a “Developmental Program” to teach younger kids ages 5-12 to play hockey and are seeking donations of used equipment. For more information about this program or the meeting, call John Shamlin at 412-508-9793 or visit their website http://www.leaguelineup.com/carrickcougars.
