Hilltop Health Ministries Consortium hires new executive director

April 22, 2008

The Hilltop Health Ministries Consortium (HHMC) recently appointed a new executive director, Steve Hellner-Burris.

Mr. Hellner-Burris brings significant expertise to HHMC with his experience in the non-profit arena. Most recently, he served as the project manager of Hosanna House, a faith-based community center located in Wilkinsburg. There he developed a number of collaborative endeavors, working with partners and the community, that have launched programs with children, youth, and adults in the areas of health, education, and human services.

He worked closely with the Center for Minority Health to launch the Wilkinsburg Healthy Black Family program. He has generated substantial grant funding and contracts over the past eight years to support programs and facilities.

In addition, Mr. Hellner-Burris expresses a strong commitment to faith-based ministries, “I believe that we, as the church community, must provide this important ministry to our members and the communities that we serve. To that end, I am eager to use my skills to help HHMC better serve the Hilltop area.”

HHMC is an ecumenical group of 6 churches promoting wholistic health of body, mind, and spirit in the neighborhoods of the South Side Pittsburgh Hilltop since 2000. Churches in HHMC include Bethlehem Lutheran, Beulah Baptist, Hill Top United Methodist, St. John Vianney Parish, St. Paul A.M.E., and Trinity Lutheran.

Through an extensive collaboration with Pittsburgh Mercy Health System's Parish Nurse and Health Ministry Program, HHMC offers numerous outreach programs.

Through HHMC's Elder Outreach Volunteer Program, senior citizens receive services which enable them to remain in their own homes. Teen Girls Squad helps to launch at-risk adolescent girls into an adulthood that is happy, healthy, and productive.

The parish nurse provides home visits, health screenings, and referrals to health services, as well as conducting weekly groups for exercise and health education.
