Arlington will be first in ‘Banking on our Future'
March 4, 2008
Arlington Pre-K-8 Accelerated Learning Academy students will be the first Pittsburgh Public School to participate in “Banking on Our Future,” a financial literacy program from Operation HOPE. Nearly 250 students are expected to participate in the 4-hour training session in February.
The condensed one-day curriculum, presented by seven banker/teachers from Huntington Bank and HOPE Corps volunteers, is designed to stimulate disenfranchised youth with hope, dignity and financial empowerment.
Financial literacy can lead to a life filled with freedom of choice and promise versus financial struggle and exploitation. Huntington Bank, in partnership with Operation HOPE, has changed young lives for the better since 2006. According to Deborah Tawney, vice president and senior community development specialist, “Financial education is important to Huntington Bank. We are very proud to be involved with the Pittsburgh Public School district.”
