Financial Education Fair at Duquesne

Given a recent rise in the foreclosure rate and a looming recession, the Financial Education Consortium of Southwestern PA will bring this information to the public during Pittsburgh Saves Week (Feb. 24 - Mar. 2) at the Financial Education Fair, Saturday, March 1, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Duquesne University's sixth floor Power Center Ballroom through:

• 20+ information booths hosted by local financial education providers

• 1-on-1 budget and credit counseling

• 1-on-1 loan document review (to prevent and identify predatory or unaffordable loans)

• tax preparation (pre-registration required: 412-281-1100 x106)

• 11 seminars on important financial topics, including foreclosure, investing, budgeting, and more.

At least 20 Financial Education Consortium members will be present to share details of their financial education programs. Member organizations include Neighborhood Housing Services - homebuyer education & foreclosure prevention, the local Federal Reserve Bank branch - savings bond education, Dwelling House Savings and Loan Association - home purchase counseling, and many others.

Opening remarks at the free event will be made by event chair, Esther Bush, president & CEO of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh.

The Financial Education Consortium of Southwestern PA is a coalition of organizations committed to the advancement of financial literacy efforts in the region. Consortium membership is voluntary and includes financial institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. The consortium was created in 2003 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and is currently administered by Neighborhood Housing Services.
