Mercy Hospital holding a holiday blood drive Dec. 27

The Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and Central Blood Bank are encouraging the public to give the gift of life this holiday season by donating blood at Mercy Hospital's winter blood drive.

The region's blood supply traditionally falls to critical levels at this time of year due to the holidays; however, the need continues. Community blood drives will be held in the Sister M. Ferdinand Clark Auditorium-Side B at Mercy Hospital, 1400 Locust St., Uptown, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Visitors to the hospital and employees from neighboring businesses and organizations are encouraged to attend. Walk-ins are welcome; however, for the donors' convenience, and to avoid possible wait times, appointments are encouraged.

To be eligible, participants must weigh at least 110 lbs., be at least 17 years old and in good health, and have not given blood in the past eight weeks. Participants will be asked to present at least one form of identification, such as a driver's license or a current Central Blood Bank blood donor card.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the registered nurses at MercyLink at 1-800-232-5660.
