Sup. Roosevelt will speak tonight in Knoxville


The next meeting of the Greater Beltzhoover Inter-Agency Network, “Meet the Principals,” will be today, Oct. 31 at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, 400 Orchard Place, Knoxville. The evening will start with a reception at 5 p.m., the program will begin promptly at 6 p.m. and conclude at 7:15 p.m.

Featured guests include Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Mark Roosevelt, Richard Sternberg, principal of Grandview Elementary School and Anita Burley, principal of Carrick High School, along with State Senator Wayne Fontana and Congressman Mike Doyle. In addition, representatives from Tickets for Kids Foundation and Neighborhood Housing Services will have updates and announcements from their organizations.

The evening will also feature “Book-A-Treat.” Children who visit the meeting will receive treat bags containing an age-appropriate book and other items. Any child who reads the book, answers a short questionnaire and returns it to the agency will receive tickets for the child and parent to visit the Pittsburgh Voyager. The books are being provided by Reading Is Fundamental.

Dinner, at no charge, will be served at the conclusion of the meeting and those attending are welcome to eat, network and discuss issues of concern. All are welcome.
