Councilman Koch should have listened

October 3, 2006

City Council has all but collectively turned its back on residents of the South Side Flats and Slopes. In the preliminary vote taken on Wednesday Sept. 20, and the final vote on Tuesday, Sept. 26, Councilman Motznick, from Carrick, was the only person to vote against building the impending skyscrapers South Side residents have continuously shunned.

I can only wonder why our own Councilman, Jeffrey Koch, voted against his constituents. It strikes me as odd that a single developer has more sway in City Hall than all of a communities groups and residents.

It now looks as if our only hope to stop the towering masses from being built is if Mayor Ravenstahl steps in and issues a veto. Mayor Ravenstahl has been saying recently that he wants to continue on in the spirit of Mayor O'Connor. We can only hope that he remembers Bob O'Connor was a “neighborhoods first” kind of guy.
