Dress For Success celebrates first anniversary

Dress for Success® Pittsburgh is celebrating one year of providing business attire and career development services to local women in need with a week-long series of events through September 16, the highlight of which is a “Success Celebration” at Downtown nightspot, Bossa Nova.
The Success Celebration is to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 6 – 9 p.m. Prominent area women are hosting the party, including KDKA TV anchor Kristine Sorenson, Pennsylvania State Senator Jane Clare Orie and City of Pittsburgh Councilwoman Tonya Payne. The evening will feature tapas sampling, a Chinese auction, complimentary massages and manicures, and drink specials.
Attendees are being asked to make a contribution or donate items on Dress for Success Pittsburgh's Wish List, which includes hair and nail products and gift cards to retailers such as Giant Eagle and Wal-Mart.
Dress for Success Pittsburgh is an affiliate of the international non-profit established in New York City in 1996, and has helped more than 380 Pittsburgh-area women overcome obstacles to find employment and advance their careers.
“Birthday Suit” Drives will be held to collect new or gently worn women's suits and blouses from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily at the following locations:
Tuesday, September 12 at One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant Street
Wednesday, September 13 at the Regional Enterprise Tower, 425 Sixth Avenue
Friday, September 15 at Fifth Avenue Place, 120 Fifth Avenue, Sponsored by Highmark.
Dress for Success Pittsburgh will also accept donations of purses and small items at the HealthAmerica booth at the Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the David Lawrence Convention Center.
Dress for Success Pittsburgh will conclude the week-long celebration with Macy's Shop for A Cause Day on Saturday, Sept. 16 at all Pittsburgh area Macy's and Kaufmann's/Macy's stores. Tickets are $5.00 each and are available by calling Martha or Gerry at the Dress for Success offices at 412-201-4204. Ticket holders are entitled to exclusive merchandise discounts, a $10 bonus coupon and opportunities to win prizes.
Best known for providing gently-used suits to women for job interviews, The non-profit works year-round to offer job-related coaching skills and support to low-income women. Dress for Success Pittsburgh has a comprehensive program including a Dressing Boutique manned with volunteer wardrobe consultants and monthly Professional Women's Group (PWG) networking events and life-skills seminars
Individuals interested in supporting Dress for Success Pittsburgh continue its mission can volunteer as a personal shopper for the suiting program, share career skills/advice or involve their own company as a corporate supporter of the organization. Donations of funds for daily operating expenses and clothing (particularly plus-sizes and shoes) are always welcome.
