County to train volunteers for Hartwood

September 12, 2006

The Allegheny County Parks Department will hold a training class from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 for individuals interested in serving as docents or working on special projects at Hartwood Mansion.

As part of training, participants will review the history of Hartwood Mansion and tour the facility. Lunch will also be provided.

“We have a number of exciting events and programs scheduled for the coming months at Hartwood Mansion, as well as in the park itself,” said Hartwood Mansion Manager Sylvia Easler. “Consequently, we are in need of enthusiastic and energetic volunteers who have time to help make Hartwood Mansion an even bigger County attraction.”

Throughout the year, Hartwood Mansion is used for many special events, such as high teas, weddings and the Eckerd Celebration of Lights.

“The mansion serves as a beautiful and pristine focal point of Hartwood Acres,” added Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato. “It's important that we have dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers who can effectively showcase the history, legacy and splendor of the building.”

Individuals interested in attending the training session should call 412-767-9200.
