Who will have the best garden in Carrick?

The annual Carrick Goes Gardening contest is now open to residents, businesses, schools and churches.
First time and veteran gardeners alike are encouraged to participate. The event is sponsored by the Carrick Community Council and the Carrick Business Association.
The deadline for entries is Friday, June 30. Entrants must submit and entry form (one form per address). All gardens will be judged on purpose, color, design, impact, horticultural practice and overall creativity. Gardeners are encouraged to submit their own photos; judges will take photos when necessary.
Entries should be mailed to Carrick Goes Gardening Contest, 2306 Spokane Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15210 or deposited in the box at the Carrick Library. Entry forms are available at the library, PNC Bank, Sky Bank, Citizen's Bank and Basil Credit Union.
New this year, contestants can call 412-884-3834 or email a message to mwoshner@verizon.net with the title “Garden Contest.” Give your name, address, phone number, and area of garden to be judged. If you do not receive confirmation of your call or email message by June 30, call 412-884-3834 and request a call back.
Judging will be from July 1-18 on a random basis. Gardeners need not be home during judging.
Participants will be invited to an awards program at the Carrick Community Council meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m. at Concord Elementary School. Awards will include Rock Garden, Pond, Flowers, Wildflowers, Roses, Vegetables, Boxes & Planters, Overall Appearance, and other creative categories. Individuals and groups will be recognized.
