Chamber dinner an award winning experience for Rep. Readshaw, Reporter

The South Side Chamber of Commerce held their annual awards dinner over the weekend where they honored state Rep. Harry Readshaw as Man of the Year and The South Pittsburgh Reporter as their Business of the Year.

More than 100 people gathered at the Sokol Club to honor the awardees and listen to vocalist Jessica Lee. South Side Chamber of Commerce President Bruce Kraus began the program by introducing the special guests in attendance including Rep. Readshaw, County Councilwoman Brenda Frazier, Michele Balcer representing state Senator Jay Costa Jr., District Judge Gene Ricciardi, Mount Oliver Mayor Jeff Repasky and Brentwood Mayor Kenneth Lockhart.

Mr. Kraus presented the Man of the Year award to Rep. Readshaw noting his support of the organization over the past four years. The well respected state representative is credited with facilitating grants enabling the SSC of C to open an office and establish a presence on the Web at

Janice Goliwas, vice-president of the chamber, presented the Business of the Year award to Tom Smith, editor of The South Pittsburgh Reporter. In presenting the award, she explained that the weekly newspaper has been published since 1939 and has been in the Smith family since 1979.

The evening included additional honors for the awardees including proclamations from Lt.- Governor Catherine Baker Knoll, state senators Costa and Wayne Fontana, state Rep. Jake Wheatley and county council members Frazier and Rich Fitzgerald.
