Help needed at Hilltop MOW
July 26, 2005
Hilltop Meals on Wheels is in desperate need of help to continue its program of aiding the frail, elderly homebound residents.
There are three routes, needing a weekly total of 40 volunteers, there are currently only 20 plus, so some volunteers are working two to three days.
Deliveries are made once a day with a hot meal delivered between 10:30 and 11:30. The purpose of this program is to provide a complete hot meal to the frail, elderly and homebound unable to shop or prepare their own meals. “It only takes about 1-12 hours to make deliveries on a route. Deliverers, the volunteers who take the meal into the homes ride along with the drivers. Many times this is the only social contact the residents have and we can check on the safety of the residents,” says Sandra Goss, program director.
Anyone interested in helping with this community program, should call Goss at 412-481-5484 or 481-5220, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
