Robert Bertha celebrates 80th birthday with family

Robert L. Bertha will celebrate his 80th birthday on June 22.

A lifelong resident of Mount Oliver, he is active with Saint Joseph Church and received the Holy Name Society Diocesan Award and Medallion Circle Award. He is responsible for the Easter and Christmas holiday billboards displayed on the fence of Saint Joseph Cemetery.

Bertha is a past officer of the Knights of Columbus of the Gilmary Council, and has been honored on many occasions for his officiating talents in football and basketball. He was named Football Official of the Year in the tri-state EIAFO. He became liaison for Pitt, Penn State, and West Virginia after retiring as an official.

Bertha is a Marine Corp veteran of the South Pacific and China and is retired from the John Morrell Company. He has been married for 56 years to Miriam. They have five children, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and “buddy” to LouJack.

The family will celebrate this special day at a party at Piccolo Mondo in Greentree.
