New shuttle bus will take visitors to the bookends of the South Side
June 14, 2005
The South Sider is a free shuttle that has been developed by Station Square, SouthSide Works, and the South Side Local Development Company (SSLDC) to improve access to the South Side. This is a pilot project to create better transportation to the South Side - Pittsburgh's best urban shopping district.
The shuttle will help to connect the anchor properties of the South Side which are Station Square and SouthSide Works with the Carson Street shops, restaurants and galleries that are in-between. This makes dining, shopping, and entertainment only a shuttle stop away on the new South Sider.
There will be two shuttles running simultaneously up and down Carson Street between Station Square and SouthSide Works. A shuttle is expected to be at a stop every 15 to 30 minutes going East Bound or West Bound. The South Sider hours are Thursday and Friday 5 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Saturday noon to 2:30 a.m., and Sunday noon to 8 p.m.
The shuttle will stop at the following locations: Station Square at the Sheraton Hotel, 11th Street at East Carson, 17th Street at East Carson, 22nd Street at East Carson, and SouthSide Works at Town Square (located at 27th Street and Sidney). The Shuttle will run through Labor Day.
In order to provide financial support for the South Sider shuttle, sponsorship has been given by featured sponsor National City along with media partners including the City Paper, WRKZ K-ROCK 93.7FM and WZPT Star 100.7FM. East Carson Street sponsors include Beehive Coffeehouse, Lava Lounge and Tiki Lounge.
