Restaurant, cineplex named as tennants of South Side Works
July 29, 2003
South Side residents can look forward to cheesecake and a movie next summer. The Soffer Organization has been working to bring the Cheesecake Factory to the South Side Works to be located adjacent to the new 10-screen Cineplex.
Soffer received approval from the Planning Commission for design plans for the Factory in April. The restaurant will seat 360 customers indoors and 70 in outdoor patio seating. Construction should begin later this year.
The 10-screen Cineplex will begin construction this summer and the Soffer Organization has entered into a partnership with John Harper, president of the Pittsburgh Theater Company, to create a state-of-the-art cinema that will emphasize art films as well as mainstream movies. There will be stadium seating and the best in visual and sound technology. Moviegoers will be able to purchase their tickets online and select a reserved seat for each performance.
The cinema will be located on Sidney Street in a landscaped town square with a fountain and benches. The 100,000 square foot structure will include a two-story lobby leading to a second floor theater with 2,000 seats. The first floor will have specialty shops and include restaurants and cafes with outside dining.
