Students earn Eagle of the Cross awards from Pittsburgh Diocese

Three South Pittsburgh high school students are among those who received Eagle of the Cross awards from the Secretariat for Education in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

The awards are presented to high school seniors and juniors from each of the diocese's 16 deaneries and 11 Catholic high schools. Winners are chosen because they exemplify qualities of moral integrity, good works and Christian leadership.

Local awardees include, from the deanery, Adam Warble of St. Basil Parish, Carrick, South Pittsburgh Deanery. Among school winners are Dezeree Hodish, Prince of Peace Parish, South Side, Oakland Catholic and Ralph Gigliotti, Our Lady of Loreto Parish, Brookline, Seton-LaSalle High School.

Their pastors, youth ministers, catechetical administrators and principals nominated winners. They received their awards from Auxiliary Bishop David A. Zubik during a prayer service at Saint Paul Seminary.
