Shop local on Small Business Saturday

November 21, 2017

The Historic South Side Business District welcomes everyone on Small Business Saturday, November 25.

South Side has countless restaurants, bars, and retail and specialty shops, an abundance of attractions for everyone for those looking for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or holiday gifts for loved ones and friends.

Founded by American Express Corporation in 2010, Small Business Saturday is an annual American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It was first observed in Roslindale Village, Massachusetts, as a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores.

The first Small Business Saturday was promoted by American Express through nationwide radio and television advertising campaigns. They used social media, advertising and public relations to publicize the event and created quite a social media frenzy. Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to shop at small, local brick-and-mortar stores.

The South Side Chamber of Commerce will feature a “Shop Small Business Saturday” open house at the South Side Welcome Center at 1100 East Carson Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with light refreshments and giveaways.
