Zone 3 community crime alerts for May 7-14

 


The following are the Part I crimes for the week of: May 8-14.

Duquesne Heights (1911)

Theft by deception – 200 blk. Sweetbriar St. – between 4/3/17 at midnight and 5/8/17 at 11:05 AM – Victim called to report her caregiver was given rent money to take to the rental office. According to the victim, the caregiver never took the money to the office. The victim found out when she went to pay the current month's rent. Loss is $310.

Mt. Washington (1903, 1914, 1915, 1807)

Theft from person – 100 blk. Beltzhoover Ave. – 5/10/17 at noon – Victim called to report the theft of a Xbox video game system. Amount of loss is $400. There was no forced entry and two people were inside when the system was taken according to the victim.

Theft from business – 100 blk. Bailey Ave. – 5/11/17 at 5 AM – An employee of a business called to report a customer took over $100 of the register while he was taking care of another matter.

Robbery – 200 blk. Boggs Ave. – 5/9/17 at 1:40 AM – Victim called to report he was robbed. The victim was leaving a local bar when 2 black males followed him. The suspects then demanded the victim's belongings and when he refused he was struck in the head and the demand for the victim's belongings was reiterated. The victim then handed over his cash, ID, and debit card. The amount of loss is over $140. The 2 black males are described as between 20-30 years old, about 5'8", 160 pounds, and wearing gray hoodies. The victim had a cut on his left eyebrow. The victim refused treatment at the scene.

South Shore (1921)

Theft from person – 100 blk. W. Carson St. – 5/10/17 at 2 PM – Victim called to report his black Penguins Jersey and Air Force hi-top shoes had been stolen from his work place. Amount of loss is $400.

Bon Air (1806)

South Side Slopes (1706, 1608)

Theft of property – 100 blk. Magdalene St. – between 4/24/17 at midnight and 4/28/17 at midnight – Victim reported having a package delivered to his home and never receiving it. The victim called the delivery company and was told the package was delivered. The package contained a Kitchen Aid mixer worth $150.

Theft from vehicle – 2000 blk. Gregory St. – between 5/9/17 at 12:30 AM and 5/9/17 at 6 AM – Victim reported his Nikon 5200 camera was stolen from his vehicle. The vehicle was unlocked. Loss is $700.

South Side Flats (1609, 1702)

Theft by deception – 700 blk. S. 21st – between 5/3/17 at 10 AM and 5/8/17 at 10 AM – Victim called to report a homecare worker took his access card and gave him someone else's card in its place. The victim is blind. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from person – 2100 blk. Wharton St. – between 1/1/17 at midnight and 3/25/17 at midnight – Victim reported his mail was stolen from his residence. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from business – 2500 blk. E. Carson St. – between 4/29/17 at midnight and 5/6/17 at midnight – An owner of a business called to report he caught his employee stilling money out of the register. Amount of loss is over $150.

Theft from vehicle – S. 28th St. & E. Carson St. – 5/14/17 at 5:38 PM – Victim called to report items stolen from her car. The items were a pair of gloves, prepaid cell phone, & vehicle documents. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from business – 100 blk. S. 16th St. – between 4/10/17 at 8 AM and 5/8/17 at 5:30 PM – Owner of a local business called to report he had caught an employee stealing money. The amount of loss is over $500.

Theft of property delivered – 100 blk. S. 16th St. – 5/9/17 at 3:30 PM – Victim called to report an Urn was stolen. The urn was delivered. A witness saw a black male (6', 180 pounds, 18-28 years old, and wearing a black and yellow Steelers hat with a black scarf, gold necklace and blue jeans) zipping up his backpack on the neighbor's porch. Amount of loss is $100.

Theft by deception – 1300 blk. Breed St. – between 5/8/17 at 9:45 AM and 5/11/17 at 9:45 AM – Victim called to report her vehicle was towed by a towing company to their business. The victim explained she signed a release for the vehicle so the vehicle could be towed by another company to a dealer for repairs. The second towing company kept calling the first towing company without a response. The victim stated the fee showed over $200. When the vehicle was finally towed from the first towing company lot it was now $814.

Theft by deception – 1300 blk. Muriel St. – 5/9/17 at midnight – Victim explained he sent a friend his login information for his bank to help deposit 3 checks. The victim later found 3 unauthorized transactions. Amount of loss is $4,100.

Theft from person – 100 blk. S. 17th St. – 5/11/17 at 3:15 AM – Victim reported he had some friends over to his home after meeting them at a local bar. The victim discovered his prescription medication was stolen after his friends left his home. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from person – 1100 blk. E. Carson St. – 5/14/17 at 3:15 AM – Victim reported someone had stolen her iPhone 7 and credit card while she was at a local bar. The amount of loss is unknown.

Aggravated assault by vehicle – Roland St. & S. 15th St. – 5/14/17 at 2 AM – Officers working South Side saturation were turning a vehicle around when another car turned onto the roadway going the wrong direction. When officers tried stopping the car the vehicle accelerated towards them causing them to jump out of the way. The vehicle then proceeded past them and struck a parked vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and identify the driver. The amount of damage to the parked vehicle is unknown at this time.

Theft from person & Access Device Fraud – 1500 blk. E. Carson St. – 5/14/17 at 2 AM – Victim reported her wallet was stolen from a local bar. The victim stated her debit card also had over $500 in charges that were not authorized.

Allentown (1803)

Theft from person – 200 blk. Allen St. – between 5/8/17 at 10 PM and 5/10/17 at 8 AM – Victim reported her black and red lawn mower was stolen along with her white wicker couch. Amount of loss is unknown.

Stolen vehicle – 1300 blk. Saw Mill Run Blvd. – between 5/5/17 at 6 PM and 5/6/17 at 9 AM – A local car dealership reported a white 1998 Ford Econoline Van was stolen from its lot. The van was a trade-in on another vehicle. There was no license plate affixed to van. The van was recovered in another police department's jurisdiction.

Theft from vehicle – 200 blk. Copperfield Ave. – between 5/13/17 at 1:30 AM and 5/13/17 at 10 AM – Victim called to report her Michael Kors wallet, cash, ID, and credit cards were stolen out of her vehicle. The amount of loss is over $20.

Aggravated assault – 1100 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 5/14/17 at 11:55 AM – An officer was "flagged down" by a witness who saw a man bleeding in the road and was taking him to the hospital. The victim told police he was shot but could not give a description of the actor at the time. Officers were told the suspect may have still been inside the apartment building. The building was cleared by SWAT members, but was negative for the suspect.

Theft from vehicle – 2100 blk. Brownsville Rd. – between 5/10/17 at 6 PM and 5/11/17 at 8:30 AM – Victim discovered the vehicle's rear windshield was smashed and the auxiliary cord was stolen. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from vehicle – 400 blk. Becks Run Rd. – between 1/1/17 at midnight and 3/31/17 at midnight – A manager of a local business called to report a license plate was stolen from a work trailer. The PA plate was PT3411K.

Theft from person – 100 blk. Newburn Ave. – between 5/8/17 at 3:30 PM and 5/9/17 at 3:30 PM – Victim called to report her lawn mower (Black & Decker electric) was stolen from her back yard. Amount of loss is unknown. The lawn mower was orange.

Aggravated assault – 400 blk. Suncrest St. – 5/9/17 at 7:50 PM – Officers were clearing a call when they were approached by a male stating there was a woman in the rear of his address threatening him and his family with an aluminum baseball bat. Officers went to rear and saw the suspect (Roxanne Kass) screaming she was going to "f*** somebody up". Officers yelled at her several times to drop the bat. Kass' response was "f*** you". Roxanne Kass pulled the bat back in a motion to hit one of the officers. An officer was able to grab the bat off of her. Kass then resisted arrest and kicked officers in the legs and groin. Kass then screamed obscenities and racial slurs at her neighbors which caused a large disturbance.

Theft from person – Moore Ave & Brownsville Rd. – 5/8/17 at 6 PM – Victim called to report she left her purse unattended and an unknown person stole her prescription medication. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft or property delivered – 100 blk. Knox Ave. – 4/29/17 at 10:30 AM – Victim called to report a package was delivered to the wrong house by the delivery company. Her sister went to ask for the package back, but it was not returned.

Robbery & Aggravated assault – Arabella St. & Redlyn St. – 5/12/17 at 8:45 PM – The victim's mother called to report her son may have been shot after an attempted robbery from a "jitney" driver. The victim stated he accepted a ride downtown to local intersection. He was getting the money for the ride when he was robbed. The victim could not state who shot him and could not describe the firearm. The victim was in stable condition.
