The following are the Part I crimes for the week of: April 3-9.

Duquesne Heights (1911)

Mt. Washington (1903, 1914, 1915, 1807)

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Olympia St. – 4/4/17 at 1 PM – victim observed his center console open. His iphone 6S and engagement ring was stolen out of his truck. There is video surveillance of suspect.

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Simms St. – 4/4/17 at 5:30 PM – an officer responded to a found property call. The reporting person found an ID which the reporting person knew lived in the area previously. The officer was able to contact the owner and return the property. The owner explained the property was stolen from their vehicle but never reported it.

Theft from person – 100 blk. Southern Ave. – 4/5/17 at 3 AM – victim had is white plastic bench stolen from in front of his home. There is video surveillance of the theft. Loss is $20.

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Cowan St. – 4/9/17 at 8:25 AM – officers were summoned for a theft from vehicle in progress. Upon arrival, the victim had caught the suspect (Joshua Van Auker) inside his vehicle stealing his property. Van Auker was arrested.

South Shore (1921)

Theft by deception and Forgery – 100 blk. E. Carson St. – 4/6/17 at 3:57 PM – an employee of a local business reported a black male had just used a counterfeit $100 bill. Later, the business called back stating the same black male had returned. This incident was captured on video. Therman Demond Smith Jr. was arrested. The female (Shantell Lynn Boykin) with Smith struck an officer with the car door when she was trying to leave the traffic stop. Boykin was arrested on scene. Officers recovered a large assortment of drugs, a firearm, & a counterfeit $100 bill.

Bon Air (1806)

South Side Slopes (1706, 1608)

Theft from person – Josephine St. & Arlington Ave. – 4/9/17 at 2:15 PM – victim gave an unknown black female (50 to 60 years old, 5'4", thin build, 125 pounds, black hair, dark complexion and wearing a white long sleeve shirt and tight black pants) a ride. The victim later discovered her purse had been taken with its contents and her phone. Amount of loss is unknown.

South Side Flats (1609,1702)

Theft from person – 2500 blk. Sidney St. – between 1/1/17 at midnight and 4/2/17 at 11 AM – victim reported his Giant Cypress Bicycle with phone holder stolen. The bike has a Dapper Bicycle sticker. The victim stated he noticed the bike missing in March when the weather got warm, but did not report it. He found an advertisement online for a local second hand shop advertising his bike for sale. Loss is $200.

Theft from business – 100 blk. S. 26th St. – between 3/30/17 at 4:30 PM and 3/32/17 at 6 AM – victim reported his storage unit lock was cut off and his tools were taken. Items stolen were a Porter Cable 18 volt cordless combo (drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, work light, 2- 20 volt batteries, battery charger, kit bag, circular saw blade, & 6" wood-cutting reciprocating saw), Hitachi roofing nailer, Hitachi finishing nailer, & Milwaukee cordless impact driver. A new lock was placed on the storage unit, but the owner stated the victim was paid up and they did not place a new lock on the unit. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from person – 1800 blk. Jane St. – between 4/4/17 at 11 AM and 4/4/17 at 4:30 PM – victim reported someone had ripped open her birthday card and stole the gift cards that were inside. The victim's sister had told her she was sending the card with gift cards. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from person – 100 blk. Terminal Way – 4/5/17 at Noon – victim reported while at work someone had taken her purse. The purse was later found in the restroom and the contents were scattered around. The victim's debit and credit cards were stolen. Plus, an unknown amount of cash.

Theft from person – 100 blk. S. 27th St. – 3/28/17 at 4 PM – victim inquired about his delivery package status. It was reported being delivered on 3/28/17. He was informed to file a police report. The package contained personal documents. Monetary value is unknown.

Stolen vehicle – S. 12th St. & E. Carson St. – between 4/8/17 at 11 PM and 4/9/17 at noon – victim observed his white 2006 Acura TL sedan with PA plate had been stolen. The vehicle has been recovered.

Aggravated assault – E. Carson St. & S. 17th St. – 4/9/17 at 2:30 PM – officers responded to a male who was assaulted. Witnesses pointed out who they believed assaulted the victim. However, all witnesses were too intoxicated to give any statement of value indicating what had happened. Officers followed up (local hospital) with the victim who could not give a description of who had assaulted him or what had happened. Victim was instructed to call the Pittsburgh Police should his memory improve about what had happened.

Allentown (1803)

Theft from person – 800 blk. E. Warrington Ave. – between 11/1/16 at midnight and 4/6/17 at midnight – victim reported she left her purse and phone. The phone was a deactivated iPhone 6S and the purse was a Michael Kors. Loss is $1,100.

Beltzhoover (1809)

Burglary – 100 blk. Chalfont St. – 4/6/17 at 1 PM – victim reported a home burglary. Victim stated she was sleeping and came downstairs to find her front door and window open. Items stolen were a Cricket Android Smartphone and cash. Loss is $24.

Carrick (2901, 2902, 2904)

Aggravated assault – 2000 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 4/4/17 at 8 PM – victim was approaching his home when 2 unknown black males made contact with him asking if he had a cell phone. The victim tried to walk by them and was punched in the face repeatedly. The victim lost consciousness as a result.

Theft from person – 100 blk. Wynoka St. – between 4/3/17 at noon and 4/3/17 at 6:30 PM – victim reported an unknown person stole some of her prescription medication. The amount of loss is unknown.

Theft by deception (attempt) – 400 blk. Sinton Ave. – 4/5/17 at 12:10 PM -victim was called from a San Francisco, CA phone number stating there was a warrant for her arrest & that the victim's mother gave them the phone number to contact the victim. The victim informed the caller that this was impossible as her mother was deceased. The male caller then hung up the phone.

Theft from person – 100 blk. W. Cherryhill St. – between 4/8/17 at 2 PM and 4/8/17 at 7:40 PM – victim reported someone had stolen her son's Mongoose bicycle from their yard. Loss is $120.

Theft from person – 100 blk. Wynoka St. – 4/7/17 at 10:15 AM – an employee had collected rent and placed the money in her purse. The employee was leaving the location when she noticed the money was gone. Loss is $420.

Stolen vehicle – 200 blk. Spencer Ave. – 4/7/17 at 11 PM – victim reported his vehicle was stolen and Onstar would not give him the location without a police report. The vehicle (a green 2015 GMC Terrain) was recovered.

St. Clair (1606)

Knoxville (3001)

Arson – 100 blk. Knox Ave. – 4/5/17 at 4:05 AM – officers while on patrol observed three separate fires in the 100 block of Knox Avenue. Officers were able to extinguish the fire along with the Fire Department. Arson detectives responded to the scene. The amount of damage is unknown.

Theft of delivered property – 300 blk. Arabella St. – 3/22/17 at 2 PM - victim reported having a package delivered. When the victim came home the package had been taken. Items taken were baby shower items in pink and blue colors. Loss is $84.

Theft of property lost or mislaid – 4/5/17 at 4 PM – the victim got into a fight and her phone got broken and her school device fell out of the victim's pocket and could not be found.

Theft from person – 200 blk. Suncrest St. – between 4/5/17 at 6 PM and 4/6/17 at 10 AM – victim reported items stolen from front porch. Items were a red wooden park bench with wrought-iron legs and a white plastic "baby gate". Loss is $165.

Theft from person – 100 blk. Bausman St. – between 3/8/17 at 5:54 PM and 4/8/17 at 5:54 PM – victim reported her white and black cell phones (iphone 5 SE) were stolen. Loss is $700.
