Guns and drugs recovered after chase through South Pittsburgh
Zone 2 Detectives were assisting Zone 3 police with an investigation in the Allentown area when they observed two known individuals get into a car on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 21.
When the driver of the vehicle failed to stop for the detectives Zone 3 Officers took over the pursuit. The chase only traveled for a couple of blocks and lasted for approximately one minute before the suspects – later identified as Dionte Griffin, 20, of the Hill District, and Sharon Rue, 23, of the Hill District – drove down a dead end street, bailed out of the car, and fled on foot.
Officers saw Griffin throw a gun during the foot pursuit. Both suspects ran in the direction of Carson Street, then inbound on Sarah Street.
Griffin was apprehended in the 2800 block of Sarah and was found to be in possession of marijuana. Rue was taken into custody at the intersection of Carson and 28th streets without incident. A K-9 retraced the steps of the pursuit and recovered six bundles of heroin and a firearm in the 2800 block of Sarah Street.
A search of the vehicle recovered eight additional bundles and one brick of heroin.
Rue and Griffin were taken without incident to the Allegheny County Jail.
Rue's charges include firearms not to be carried without a license, persons not to possess a firearm, flight to avoid apprehension, receiving stolen property, possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance, criminal mischief and possessing instruments of crime. His arrest also clears a bench warrant.
Griffin's charges include firearms not to be carried without a license, fleeing or attempting to elude police, receiving stolen property, possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance, windshield obstructions and wipers, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, marijuana possession, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, reckless driving, and possessing instruments of crime.
