Police arrest Allentown man

Jaejuan Penn

Zone 1 Detectives were patrolling the Troy Hill/Spring Garden area on January 11, when they observed a warrant suspect, Jaejuan Penn, 20, of Allentown, on Goettman Street.

Detectives pulled alongside Penn and activated their lights and sirens. When the detectives exited their vehicles and asked Penn to stop, he took off on foot. As Detectives chased him on foot, he pulled a firearm out of his waistband and threw it onto a roof in the 1100 block of Brabec Street.

Detectives chased Penn through several streets and wooded. Additional police set up a perimeter in the area. In addition, a K-9 arrived on scene and searched the rear of houses in the 1100 block of Spring Garden Avenue.

The K-9 found Penn hiding in a small cubby hole in a back yard. He was taken into custody with the assistance of the dog when he refused to follow an officer's commands and was resisting the K-9.

Officers found more than $1,800 on Penn. Firefighters helped retrieve the firearm from the roof. The firearm had five live rounds including one round in the chamber.

Penn was transported to Allegheny General Hospital for medical clearance before being transported to the Allegheny County Jail. His arrest clears two warrants. His new charges include flight to avoid apprehension, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, resisting arrest, firearms not to be carried without a license, and persons not to possess firearms.
