Police investigate fatality in the Slopes

 


The Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit is investigating the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old woman from the South Side Slopes.

According to police, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Zone 3 officers were sent to the 2900 block of Eccles Street for a report of a possible robbery. The call was updated that there may be a woman being held hostage.

Police discovered Michelle Mercuri lying in the street and unresponsive with a shotgun wound to the head. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

SWAT was called to clear the house and it was determined there was no hostage situation.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
