Exciting time for the library
I want to thank the Carrick community for their dedication, patience and insight into the upcoming renovation of our library building. It is an exciting time for Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Carrick.
There is a new buzz around the library; patrons tell us they are thrilled the building will still be in the heart of the community, with more shelf space for books and materials, more room for children and teen programming and the ability for staff to experiment with new and different services that better meet the needs of our community. That excitement will only continue to grow as construction begins and we can see the building’s transformation.
Our staff is working hard to design a facility that will serve the community now and well into the future, but we couldn’t do this alone. It takes an entire community. Our community engagement process has been our most important tool in collecting input from library users, community organizations and other neighborhood stakeholders to understand how they use the library and what they expect from it.
During this process our architects and staff have incorporated that feedback directly into plans for the new library -- everything from the building’s location and design to the programs we offer.
I would encourage everyone to stop by the library on Brownsville Road and check out the architectural designs and plans for our new building. It is not too late to share your feedback and suggestions with us.
And… if it has been a while since your last visit, let our staff know and we will be happy to give you a brand new library card so you won’t have to wait for the new building to enjoy the library.
