Conservation Consultants, Inc. (CCI) has been named top performer in the Small Nonprofits Category of the Pittsburgh Green Workplace Challenge, a yearlong competition for organizations to track and measure performance in energy, water, waste and transportation initiatives.
CCI also received the Top Energy Saver award for leading in energy savings overall with a 22 percent reduction in energy.
“This contest was particularly challenging for us due to the fact that our green building is already extremely efficient,” said Indigo Raffel, education coordinator, CCI. “The Green Workplace Challenge gave us the opportunity to evaluate our building on a deeper level and to modify our daily behaviors and routines as employees to increase our sustainability potential.”
CCI performed a full BPI audit on the Ann Jones Gerace Center and received a waste audit, courtesy of Zero Waste Pittsburgh, in order to determine where improvements could be made. New office policies were implemented, including an all-encompassing sustainable goods purchasing policy.
“At CCI, we practice what we preach,” said Jeaneen Zappa, executive director, CCI. “In order to be a leader in energy efficiency, we need to first show the community the benefits of working in a sustainable environment.”
