Three people shot on Hilltop

Three people were shot overnight on May 16 in an incident currently under investigation by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Homicide Squad.

Police believe the shootings, which occurred at two locations, involved two people who were shooting at each other. An innocent bystander was shot and a seven-month-old baby had minor cuts from glass from a car window.

Shots were initially reported shortly after 9 p.m. near the Uni-Mart at 748 Brownsville Road in Knoxville. The rear passenger side window of vehicle in the store’s parking lot was shot out. The driver and front seat passenger were unharmed.

The passenger’s seven-month-old baby was uninjured from the gunfire, but was hit by broken glass. Paramedics treated the baby at the scene. The mother and child are from Bon Air. The driver is from Dormont.

At approximately 9:15 p.m ., more shots were reported in the 200 block of Michigan Street. There, a 22-year-old black man sustained a gunshot wound to his lower back.

Police determined he was an innocent bystander who had been walking from his home to a nearby bus stop. He was treated at Allegheny General Hospital where he was in stable condition.

Detectives believe two shooting victims who arrived at UPMC Mercy by private means are suspects in the shooting. One, a 20-year-old black man from Allentown, was shot in the neck and was in critical condition. The other, a 21-year-old black man from Penn Hills, was shot in the leg and was in stable condition.
