Pvt. Nickolas Austin, son of Biff and Crystal Austin, recently completed Army basic and Advanced Individualized Training at the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Pvt. Austin's job training required 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and an additional seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training concentrating on his military occupational specialty, Motor Transport Operator. He spent part of the time in the classroom and part in simulation, to earning over the 200 training hours spent in actual vehicles and field training.
Motor Transport operators learn how to operate all wheeled vehicles and equipment over various terrains and roadways, how to manage load, unload, and safety of personnel being transported, Identify, correct or report all vehicle deficiencies, prepare vehicles for movement and/or shipments by air, rail or vessel all while employing convoy defense techniques.
Pvt. Austin is a 2011 graduate of Carrick High School and is now stationed in Vilseck Germany
