Free income tax help available at Just Harvest in South Side

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites are up and running locally at Just Harvest in the 16 Terminal Way, South Side and the Hill District as well as the YMCA in Hazelwood and YWCAs in downtown Pittsburgh and Homestead.

Altogether, PNC Bank is working with more than 160 sites in 13 states and Washington, D.C. to help provide the free tax preparation service.

Individual taxpayers earning less than $20,000 or households earning less than $40,000 a year are eligible for free tax preparation and filing services through May 31 at the sites listed above. Taxpayers earning more than those amounts, but less than $52,000 should call 211 to find the nearest location with free tax preparation help.

This year, PNC has expanded its program to more locations in the Southeast U.S. while continuing to offer a debit card program that allows taxpayers to get their refunds posted to a low-fee card.

There is no fee when the card is used for a point of sale or a PNC ATM. Through PNC and the program, clients can:

Get help filing all local, state and federal tax forms.

Determine whether they are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Receive refunds on low-fee refund cards or get checks cashed free.

Access financial education tools.

Avoid high-fee check cashing or quick-loan services.
