Detours are part of Rt. 51 jug handle in Overbrook

 


Beginning at 7 a.m. weather permitting on Monday, Jan. 20, Ivyglen Street was closed to traffic between Route 51 and Underwood Street continuously through May 31 as crews conduct intersection improvements at Route 51 and construction of the new jug handle.

The following detours will be in place to guide motorists during the closure:

Ivyglen Street to Northbound Route 51

Follow Ivyglen Street north to Underwood Street; Take Underwood Street to Route 51; Turn right onto northbound Route 51; End detour.

Ivyglen Street to Southbound Route 51

Follow Ivyglen Street north to Underwood Street; Take Underwood Street to Route 51; Turn right onto northbound Route 51; Follow Route 51 to Nobles Lane; Turn right onto Nobles Lane; Turn left onto Colerain Street; Turn left onto southbound Route 51; Follow southbound 51 back to Ivyglen Street; End detour.

Motorist on northbound and southbound Route 51 can access Ivyglen Steet via Underwood Street.

The work is part of the $18.99 million Route 51/88 project which includes the replacement of five bridges, construction of a new bridge, turning lane construction, roadway reconstruction, signal upgrades, lighting, sidewalk and drainage improvements, CCTV cameras and stream bank restoration. Additionally, utility relocation, demolition and jug handle work are currently underway.

Four lanes of traffic on Route 51 will be maintained during peak travel times during the project. Approximately, 42,000 vehicles use Route 51 on an average day.
