Many thanks to Roberta Smith for reviving memories of visionary Charlie Samaha and highlighting his many accomplishments.
Charlie saw the potential of what South Side could be with its unique Victorian architecture and strategic location. He was very creative and had a great sense of humor. After a rain when there were a lot of large potholes on Carson St., Charlie was photographed fishing from one of the potholes which got coverage in the media.
Can’t the new people in charge of the garden at least name it the Charlie Samaha Garden? I guess I am one of the few like Roberta that remembers what Charlie did. And he did more than most.
I wonder what Charlie Samaha would think of what Carson St. looks like now.
