Bishop Zubik calls for special collection to benefit typhoon relief
Bishop David Zubik has called for a special collection to be taken up in all 200 Catholic parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh in response to Super Typhoon Haiyan.
The special collection will be taken up at Catholic Masses in the diocese on the weekend of November 23-24.
“We mourn the loss of life and the terrible suffering of our brothers and sisters affected by this powerful storm,” Bishop Zubik wrote in a letter sent to all parishes in the diocese calling for the special collection.
“Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has called for an international response and the United States Bishops are doing so,” Bishop Zubik stated.
“The funds you so generously contribute in this special collection will be used to support Catholic Relief Services (CRS), our official international humanitarian agency representing the U.S. Catholic Church,” he explained.
“Our help in the Church of Pittsburgh will combine with the help of the entire Catholic community of the United States,” the Bishop concluded.
