South Side walk raises money for the Cancer Caring Center
November has become known across the country as Men’s Health Awareness Month. In celebration, a one mile Mustache Fun Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16 at South Side Riverfront Park.
Organizer Nick DiNuzzo’s primary objective of the Mustache Style Mile is to raise awareness of men’s health issues, specifically cancers affecting men. He chose the Cancer Caring Center as the beneficiary because of the Center’s commitment to providing free services to cancer patients and families in Western PA.
The Run/Walk registration is at 9 a.m. and the event starts at 10 a.m. The Race Fee is $15 and early registrants receive a limited edition hand-screened t-shirt while supplies last. Pay and register on line at http://www.cancercaring.org/donate. Participants are encouraged to “wear all things dapper, vintage and mustachioed”.
The Center is celebrating its 25th year as a Pittsburgh-based charity providing free emotional and social support services to patients and families. They help those affected by a cancer diagnosis move forward, by offering a wide variety of programming. Services include neighborhood support groups throughout the area, individual and couples counseling, a telephone helpline, a Food Bank for qualifying patients, Reiki, art therapy, “Live Well with Cancer” newsletters, programs and much more.
The center also sponsors Pet Therapy for children at Animal Friends and support groups for children who have a family member with cancer.
