Workshop aims to reduce exposure to everyday toxins

Healthy Body, Healthy Home Workshop will be presented on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 6:30-8 p.m. by the Pennsylvania Resources Council at the CCI Center, 64 South 14th Street.

The workshop is designed to heighten awareness and encourage action around the issue of toxins in the environment.

Everyone is exposed to a number of different chemicals, carcinogens, and toxins in the environment on a daily basis, and while they may have no control over some exposures, there are many that they do. These exposures can come from radiation in cell phones, parabens in personal care products, or BPA in plastics.

The workshop encourages action around the issue of carcinogens and toxins that people come into contact with through the products they use and focuses on the consequences of these toxins on their health and how to avoid exposure. Participants will make non- toxic personal care and home products during the workshop.

Also in an effort to reduce exposure to toxins and to reduce the amount of toxins in the environment, all workshop participants/couples will receive a non-toxic green cleaning kit. The cost of the workshop is $25 per participant or $30 per couple. If interested in attending the workshop contact Sarah Alessio Shea at saraha@ccicenter.org, by calling 412-488-7490 ext. 236, or by visiting http://www.zerowastepgh.org.
