The Hilltop Culture Festival, held last week on August 10 at Transverse Park in Mount Oliver, was an overwhelming success.
The event was an opportunity for Bhutanese residents of the Hilltop to show off some of their cultural dances, food and music, and to enjoy traditional American picnic food and fun. The event included a bounce house, a magician, face painting, henna tattoos, and lots of dancing and activities provided by the Hilltop Computer Center (YMCA), the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Knoxville, the Bhutanese Community Association and several other community service providers.
Everyone in attendance had an opportunity to play, laugh, eat and celebrate the unique families that make up the Hilltop community. The evening ended with a high energy dance party, with DJ Patrice spinning the tunes and kids creating costumes from glow bracelets and necklaces.
Khara Timsina from the Bhutanese Community Association summed it up saying, “To me it was a success as everyone seemed to enjoy the whole afternoon, including me”.
Representatives from the Hilltop Computer Center, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, and the Bhutanese Community Association along with other sponsors including the Mount Oliver Borough, have all agreed to make The Hilltop Culture Festival an annual family event.
