Elder-ado centers merger with LifeSpan complete on July 1
Elder-ado, Inc. has merged senior center services with LifeSpan, Inc. beginning July 1.
New initiatives placed by the Commonwealth of PA Department on Aging as well as new scopes of services and the funding mechanism of the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging (ACAAA), made it challenging for Elder-ado to continue on its own as an independent non-profit.
Elder-ado’s board of directors along with Executive Director Steve Hutter began their search for an agency that would continue with the agency’s commitment to the seniors serviced in Knoxville, Carrick, Beltzhoover and Mount Oliver.
With the assistance of the Forbes Fund and Birmingham Foundation, a group of four Elder-ado board members interviewed several non-profits and one government agency to find a partner with the same mission/vision that would be willing to partner with the agency.
LifeSpan, Inc. was chosen in January 2013 to merge with Elder-ado and continue operation of its three senior centers in Knoxville, Carrick and Beltzhoover (McKinley). The merger of Elder-ado, Inc. and LifeSpan, Inc. was approved by the state Attorney General’s office on May 15 and LifeSpan took over operations of the senior centers on July 1.
LifeSpan, in taking over operations, has formed the Elder-ado Region which will continue to provide center services such as daily congregate meals, recreational and Prime Time Health activities at the three current senior centers as follows:
LifeSpan Knoxville Resource Center, Elder-ado Building, 320 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15210, 412-381-6900. Hours of Operation 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
