South Siders not opposed

I attended the permit parking meeting held at the Brashear Association on Tuesday, June 18 and was rather surprised to see “South Side crowd opposes additional permit parking areas” as the title for the article that provided details of the meeting.

Although the article is an accurate depiction as to what occurred, I didn’t leave feeling that the crowd was necessarily opposed to permit parking. They came with questions and received answers.

If the expectation was that permit parking would relieve all of the parking issues on South Side, those in attendance were quick to learn that it would not.

We learned more about the specifics of the process. We also learned that those sitting in the audience represented varying interests on the South Side. We left with an understanding that it is going to take more than permit parking alone to resolve the parking issues on the South Side - the need for a comprehensive plan to the parking problems on South Side.

The South Side Community Council along with others is working on this plan. Hopefully, many of those sitting in that room on June 18 will be able to assist the council in the coming months.
