Dig Into Reading with the Allentown Pop-up Library Summer Reading Club and more.

It’s not too late to join this opportunity to read some wonderful books and to be entered into a drawing for an Amazon Kindle Fire. Stop in at the Pop-up in Allentown or any other branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh to find out more about Summer Reading.

Other programs and events at the Pop-up include:

Street Lit Book Club for Adults: Come in on the third Monday of the month, beginning July 15 at 6 p.m. to discuss some great Street Lit fiction titles. The titles in order of discussion will be: True to the Game by Teri Woods ; Honor thy Thug by Wahida Clark ; Animal by K’wan ; Murder was the Case by Kiki Swinson ; Baller Dreams by Tasha Macklin and The Man in 3B by Carl Weber.

Fresh Farm Market on Thursdays in July from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. will have a local farmer visiting the Pop-up on July 11, 18 and 25 providing fresh local vegetables, as well as some farmers’ education.

No-Cook Cooking Club is on Saturday July 20 at 1 p.m. Come in to make some delicious, healthy recipes which don’t require any sort of cooking. Copies of these easy to make recipes will be sent home so everyone can enjoy making them with friends and family. This month they hope to use herbs and other goodies from the community garden.

Let’s Talk: Local Economy will take place on Thursday July 25. The CLP Pop-up Allentown will host a casual conversation during its evening “Adult Swim” time. This event will encourage talk about the topic of “Local Economy.” Bring ideas to share and be ready to listen and learn with other members of the community.

This is the fourth of a monthly evening conversation series about relevant issues. Refreshment Information: light refreshments will be provided

Learn to Make Herbal Sugar Scrubs & Dead Sea Salts on Monday July 29 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. with Cynthia Hill of Third Day Soaps. In this hands-on workshop students will learn to make herbal sugar scrubs and Dead Sea salt bath soak. Bath salts soften the bath water and release a wonderful aroma and sugar scrubs exfoliate and soften the skin. Make and take home these two treats to enjoy. Registration required. Space is limited.
