Carnegie Library expands hours in branches
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh customers will now have greater access to programs, computers, materials and facilities. Beginning the week of April 14, most Pittsburgh library locations will have expanded hours, opening more evenings, and, for the first time in more than a decade, CLP – Downtown & Business,612 Smithfield Street, will be open on Saturdays for customer use.
In total, library customers will gain an additional 79 hours per week. Hours at CLP – Main in Oakland and the Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped will remain unchanged.
The additional evening and weekend hours enable the library to increase access to services, programs and materials for students and adults. This is just one of the ways the library will address community needs in 2013.
The Library also plans to expand access to technology; provide additional early learning outreach programs and services to preschools and daycares; and work toward long-term financial sustainability.
To celebrate the new hours, city libraries will host special evening and weekend programming, ranging from wellness programs, genealogy workshops, movies marathons and open houses.
