Slovak Mass, Easter Customs Breakfast coming up at Prince of Peace Parish
Prince of Peace Parish will host its annual Slovak Mass and Easter Customs Breakfast on Saturday, March 16.
This spiritual and cultural event is sponsored by the Slovak Customs Group/Cultural Diversity Committee. Proceeds benefit two organizations in Slovakia: the School Sisters of St. Francis in Ruzemoborek, which for many years operated an orphanage, and the Oz Barlicka Institute in Presov, which provides life-skills training for young adults with disabilities, training for young mothers and rehabilitative care for elderly.
The mini cultural festival begins at St. Adalbert Church, 14th Street, with recitation of the Holy Rosary in Slovak at 9:45 a.m. Father Peter Haledej of Easter Liverpool, Ohio, will celebrate Holy Liturgy in Slovak at 10 a.m. Geri Walters and the Prince of Peace Choir will lead the congregation in singing Slovak hymns.
Afterward, everyone is invited to sample a traditional Slovak Easter breakfast of sunka, kolbasy, pysanki, paska, siretz, hrin, and kolace. Cultural displays, craft demonstrations and a bake sale are also planned.
There is no charge to attend the Slovak Easter Customs Breakfast, but donations are accepted and will help defray breakfast expenses.
