Free parking downtown on Saturdays ‘til Dec. 22

Downtown business owners and their customers received a little holiday cheer with the announcement that there will be free parking on Saturdays at Parking Authority garages.

The Pittsburgh Parking Authority (PPA) approved the Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s proposed Holiday Shopper and Special Event Parking Program for the 2012 holiday season.

“During this holiday season, I want to do everything I can to help make Downtown a customer-friendly shopping and entertainment destination,” Mayor Ravenstahl said. “By offering free parking, we make it possible for customers to more readily enjoy all that Downtown has to offer. The established and flourishing restaurants and businesses, old and new, in Market Square and throughout our Golden Triangle, continue to fuel Pittsburgh’s Third Renaissance.”

Shoppers may park for free at any of the nine Parking Authority garages all day Saturday throughout the holiday season. The program will continue through Saturday, Dec. 22.

“We are grateful to the Mayor for providing Pittsburghers with even more reasons to shop, dine and be entertained this holiday season,” said Jeremy Waldrup, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s president and CEO.

Pittsburgh Parking Authority garage locations: Oliver Avenue; Fort Duquesne and Sixth; Third Avenue; Mellon Square; Ninth and Penn; Wood/Allies; First Avenue Garage and Station; Smithfield/Liberty; Grant Street; Oakland garage at Meyran; Shadyside garage at Bellefonte.
