Phillips Winterfest family fun

The second annual Winterfest at Phillips, a night of family fun, is coming up on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 6-8 p.m. at Pittsburgh Phillips K-5 on South Side.

The event will feature a visit from Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Parents are welcome to bring cameras to take pictures of their children with the Santa.

There will be holiday crafts and cookie decorating for the kids, lime music and entertainment and a bake sale to benefit the Phillips fifth grade camping trip.

Kids can also write letters to the troops serving their country. A donation drive is also underway for the troops; of special need are items such as granola bars, mints and gum, Pop-Tarts, individual boxes of cereal, Skittles, Starburst, power bars, beef jerky, lip balm and individual packs of cookies and crackers.

A more extensive list of items needed is on the Military Connections website: All donated items will be shipped for free by Military Connections.

The evening is also an opportunity to drop off toys and food for Brashear Association’s annual holiday toy and food drive. New, unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items are needed.

The Winterfest at Phillips is hosted Pittsburgh Phillips K-5 with support from Citiparks, Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community, LifeStone Church and the South Side Chamber of Commerce.
