Vampire themed blood drive in South Side

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community on Monday, Oct. 29 from 2-7 p.m.

“Because it will be so close to Halloween we decided to have some fun and give it a vampire theme,” said Michael Holohan, director of ministries at Hot Metal. Donors can enter a drawing to win a set of classic vampire films on DVD and the volunteers - but not the nurses - will be encouraged to arrive in vampire costume.

“Though I doubt anyone will be wearing glitter on their skin like the vampires in Twilight,” Mr. Holohan was quick to add.

The donation process consists of four easy steps: registration, a confidential screening of a medical history followed by a mini-physical, donation, and refreshments. The actual donation takes about ten minutes.

Those who want to schedule an appointment in advance are encouraged to call 412-481-4010 or register online at http://www.hotmetalbridge.com. Walk-in donations will be gladly accepted as well.

The Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community is at the corner of 27th and Jane streets in South Side. The 48 and 75 bus lines have stops nearby and parking for cars and bicycles is available on-site.
